Description

The Basic Certificate in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) program is designed for individuals working as digital mapping, spatial analysis, and data management assistants in field and office settings under the guidance of spatial data experts and analysts. The program aims to equip students with the skills necessary for careers in environmental planning, urban development, topographical mapping, resource management, and related fields.

Students engage in practical work, which is considered an essential component of the program, enabling them to develop knowledge and skills in GIS applications. The philosophy of fieldwork is to support the learning process and provide knowledge through direct observation and fact-finding, as opposed to routine learning. The program consists of 14 modules spread over two semesters, with each academic year comprising two semesters. Each semester includes 15 weeks for classroom activities and on-campus practicals, as well as 2 weeks for written examinations. Therefore, the entire program spans a total of 34 weeks of study for full-time attendance mode.
